Company Information: The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad commonly called AT&SF, or just plain Santa Fe is currently the largest US railroad. It’s meager beginnings date back to its’ namesake cities being connected as far back as 1859. Expansion resulted in boom-towns being built and owned by the railway to exploit gold and silver reserves being uncovered in the Colorado Rockies during the late 1800’s.
The railroad was made famous during the late 1940’s and 1950’s due to its ties with movie stars in Hollywood. Train travel was a thing of glamour and the AT&SF did not disappoint. Famous named trains include the Super Chief and El Capitan that ran from Chicago to Los Angeles. For these services the famous war-bonnet scheme was introduced.
By 1971 all passenger services were relinquished to the government run Amtrak.
